Keydown writes the connection files for Claude Code and Codex. Any other MCP client can run Keydown as a local server.

Install
Download Keydown and open your project folder, or start a new one.

Choose your assistant in Keydown and connect the project. It adds the MCP settings and a short AGENTS.md guide.

Start your assistant in the project folder and say hello. Keep writing while it works.
Exactly as much help as you want.

Co-author
The agent drafts from your outline and summaries; you rewrite in your own voice.
Draft the Catalyst scene from its summary. Keep Mara’s voice dry, and stay under 2,000 words.

Targeted edits on the passage you have selected, each one labelled and undoable.
Tighten the paragraph I’ve selected. Don’t touch any dialogue.

Research partner
The agent researches and keeps notes beside the manuscript, never inside it.

The agent reads and responds in comments. Every word of the prose stays yours.

Tools are declared as reading or writing, so your assistant’s own permission settings decide whether it may change a word.

Your subscription, your account. Keydown never sees your prompts or your AI provider. The assistant talks to the app on your own machine.
Every change is visible. Agent edits land in the open editor as they happen, each a labelled step you can undo.
House rules in plain text. AGENTS.md holds your voice notes and the things an agent must never change.
Portable by design. The project is Markdown and Fountain, so agents and people can work on it outside Keydown too.
